Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on France: the German naval authorities report the situation in the Brest Peninsula as of August 6-7; Naval Headlines, covering that all U-boats on the Biscay coast are to be equipped with Schnorkels; that Lorient is surrounded, with U-boat repairs discontinued there; that the lock gates at St Malo are out of action, and the demolition of harbour installations has begun; a report that the French Resistance are preparing for total mobilisation on August 15; and that five ships were sent from Fiume to assist against an attack by guerrillas on Albona.
