Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: from M Garreau in Moscow, relating localised rumours on a German General's plot, on July 29, with Churchill's comment; on Western Europe: a 2nd Parachute Corps situation report for August 1; two reports on supply returns for the 47th Panzer Corps, for August 1 and 2; on the battle HQ of the 58th Panzer Corps in Normandy, on August 3; on the 2nd SS Panzer and 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Divisions, on August 2; and that a German Air Force (GAF) installation, possibly a flying bomb dump, was put out of action by an Allied raid on August 3; and on Southern Europe: that the 2nd Air Fleet appreciates that the Allies intend to continue their attacks until the final capture of Florence, on August 2 and 3.
