Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: of U.S. armoured tanks making spearheads north-east of Rennes, on August 1; a 25th Corps situation report, for August 1; a 25th and 84th Corps situation report, for August 1; a 13th Flak Division report, for August 1; a 2nd Panzer Division situation report, for August 1; a report on the 21st Panzer Division's front line, for August 1; that some flak forces operating in the Brittany area are to be brought up to the battle area, on August 1; that airfields in Brittany are to be destroyed, on August 1; that men are to be drawn from U-boat flotillas based on the French west coast and formed into companies and used to release army troops from fortresses, on August 1; and a great fuel shortage was reported by the 84th Corps on the west Normandy front, on July 31.
