Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: of an attack on Gialo on September 19, and that the Italians are to attack on September 20 or 21; and that the German Air Force (GAF) suspect British bombers are transferring from Egypt to the Caucasus; on the Mediterranean: that the GAF are to give priority to convoy protection, attacks on British convoys to Malta, and night attacks, on September 19; on the Southern Russian Front: that the Germans claim to hold the main part of Stalingrad, on September 19; from the Japanese minister in Madrid on Japanese confidence in victory, as of September 20; and from the Japanese minister in the Holy See, on rumours of peace moves.
