Unsigned Record of a Conversation with Archduke Otto of Hapsburg Regarding Opposition to the Nazis

1 Apr 1939

MOST SECRET ARCHDUKE OTTO OF HAPSBURG. I passed three hours with this young man at the Chateau Steenbock near Brussels on the 22nd April. He certainly does not live in luxury and I was agreeably surprised to find that very little effort is really made to keep up the pretence of royalty. His secretary and equerry, Count Degenfeld, asked me quite nicely if I had any feelings about the form of address to be used when speaking to the Archduke and was quite satisfied with the reply that I would follow any suggestions he made.
