Future Strategy of Japan

1 Mar 1941

If the capture of Singapore were attempted the most probable method would be a landing near the frontier on the east coast of the Kra peninsula followed by a land advance through difficult country. It would not be an easy operation and would be virtually impossible in the face of strong British naval and air forces. A simultaneous occupation of Borneo would be likely. (paragraphs 22 24). The seizure of Burma would close the Burma road to China but would involve fighting in difficult country and would produce few short term economic advantages.
