Japanese Reactions to an Operation Against Southern Kyushu Note by the Secretary (U.S., J.I.C.191/8)

1 Jul 1945

REVISION OF APPENDIX "B" TO JIC 191/7 AIR 1. General. As the result of greatly expanded air action against Japan, the Japanese aircraft industry, as well as airfield installations, supplies, and repair facilities, will suffer greatly during the next few months. Having lost Okinawa, the Japanese will decrease the scale of their recent air effort against us, while striving to conserve strength for an all-out effort against any Allied attempt to land in the home islands. However, they cannot escape the constant attrition which will be forced upon them, and we anticipate a further decline in the numbers of combat aircraft available in both tactical and training units.
