Japanese Strategy and Capacity to Resist. Report by the J.I.C.

ANNEX REPORT 1. Since our last appreciation + dated the 12th August, 1944 the following major developments have taken place:(a) The Allies have established themselves in the Philippines, have inflicted crippling defeats on the Japanese Navy and Air Force and so, by achieving naval and air supremacy in the South West Pacific, have virtually severed Japan's sea communications between the Inner and Outer Zones. The Japanese for their part, have not carried out their original intention of developing an adequate alternative line of communications between the Inner and Outer Zones overland through China.
