and might attack at a suitable moment without warning. Russian forces east of the Urals are currently estimated by the War Office to be 39 divisions, of which 7 are cavalry, and 12 tank brigades, in addition to several minor independent formations. (The total strength is estimated at about 625,000). This force would not appear to be sufficient to stage a sustained offensive campaign without reinforcement over the Siberian railway from the west, which would not take place until after the defeat of Germany and which might take some time.
