divisions from Italy, which might be sent to the West to replace divisions which had been sent to the East. Nevertheless the magnitude of the Russian victory is such that at the moment it appears unlikely that such a transfer of troops to the West would be possible at any rate during February and the first half of March. Indeed J.I.C. London state that if Berlin itself is directly threatened further transfers from the West to the East will probably be forced upon the Germans. Any substantial increase of divisions in the West is therefore unlikely to take place before the end of March.
