In the West, therefore, the Germans must cling to the areas from which the flying bombs and rockets can be launched, and in the East somehow prevent the Russians breaking into Germany. 16. The Nazi Party, now in unchallenged control, will continue to hold out to the last, at whatever cost to Germany and it seems more than ever likely that Germany's collapse can only be brought about by military defeat in the field, leading to the collapse of organised resistance by the German armed forces.
