The Sonderstab (special unit) organisation, which is now in training, is considered an excellent instrument for exploiting in Iraq any German success in Syria. This organisation, which appears to be a cross between a Long Range Desert group and 5 Special Operations unit and will probably comprise 3,000 of all ranks, including some disaffected Iraquis, with 1,000 M.T. vehicles, would form an ideal spearhead and, should it make rapid contact with Iraqui elements, would seriously impair the defences, even if the German regular formations were some weeks behind.
