3. On the other hand, German detachments have (a) Reached. a point on the KUMA RIVER 45 miles from the CASPIAN SEA; (b) Reached a point on the ROSTOV BAKU railway 40 miles N.W. of GROZNI; (c) Infiltrated through the main CAUCASUS range WEST of MT. ELBRUS. 4. It would appear, therefore, that the Germans are making simultaneous thrusts with the immediate intention of:(a) Reaching the CASPIAN coast, thereby cutting the ASTRAKHAN-KIZLYAR railway; (b) Capturing GROZNI; (c) Capturing SUKHUM and the BLACK SEA ports.
