The Situation in China. Report by the J.I.C.

1 Aug 1942

5. Recent reports indicate that the rate of deterioration of Chinese morale has not markedly changed. The economic situation has been slightly relieved by a temporary fall in the price of foodstuffs as a result of excellent local harvests. It is thought that the country can stand up to present economic difficulties at least until next Spring unless these difficulties are combined with serious allied military reverses in the Far East.
