Intelligence in Burma and Thailand. Note by the Secretary

1 Aug 1942

ANNEX C/452 LONDON 19th August 1942 You will remember that the J.I.C. at its meeting of the 12th June (J.I.C.(42) 26th Meeting) approved a recommendation of the D.M.I. (J.I.C.(42) 217(0)) that the previous arrangement under which the D.I.B. was responsible for Burma should be cancelled, and that Burma and Thailand should be treated as a single unit, the penetration of which should be undertaken by S.I.S. I have been informed by my representative at Delhi that in spite of this ruling the Burma Government insist that they have the right to operate where and how they wish in Burma.
