1. U.K. Seaborne Invasion of:; 2. Anglo-American Standardisation of Arms Committee. Draft Minute to the Secy., C.O.S. Committee, Circulated to Directors by the Secretary, 4.9.40.

1939

During the last 10 days of August, the German Air Force, fighters and bombers, had been working approximately at 30% of full, capacity. This could be increased by an additional 50% over a prolonged period, and could be more than doubled for a short period of about 48 hours. It was considered by the Air Staff that the German fighter situation would shortly become serious. It was believed that since the beginning of August sons 500 of their 1500 reserve fighters had been taken into use. It was probable that the Germans underestimated the toughness of British morale.
