Spain: Intelligence Regarding Air Warfare. Report No. 3 - Air Attack on Ships. Note by the Deputy Director of Air Intelligence Giving Air Staff Views on Paper No. J.I.C. 48 and on Notes thereon by D.D.N.I. and D.D.M.I.

1 Jun 1937

(iii) "in the defence of" (This occurs in the sentence immediately following (ii) and is perhaps accidental). (iv) "The following paragraphs and appendices may, however, serve as a valuable guide in appreciating the relative effectiveness of attack and defence under war conditions of the immediate future". Page 9, Summary of Attack on Warships. It is agreed that a completely satisfactory analysis of the Appendices A.B.C.& D. cannot be made. The table given is however an indication which is much nearer the truth than no table at all and it is thought that the Admiralty objection can be met by changing the words "ships missed" to read "unsuccessful attacks".
