Spain: Intelligence Regarding Air Warfare. Report No. 4. Low-Flying Attack on Land Forces

2. Reconnaissance, fighter and bomber types of aircraft have been used for low flying attacks. Two types specially designed for low flying attack are also employed in Spain. These are the Italian BA 65 and the Russian R 5. The former carries from 4 to 8 guns, the disposition of which is not known while the latter carries 6 guns, the forward ones (number unknown) being inclined downwards Both are two seaters. The Russian I 16 fighter has four guns in the wings, but it has been reported that when used for ground "straffing", 6 guns are used and 2 of the guns are fitted so that they fire downwards at right angles to the line of flight of the aircraft.
