Establishment of a Polish Shipping Agency on the Kiel Canal

15 Mar 1949

COPY CONFIDENTIAL Extract from Report for week end 5th March, 1949 from Consulate General, Shipping Office, Gdynia to H.M. Ambassador, Warsaw. EASTERN EUROPEAN PENETRATION OF WESTERN ZONE OF GERMANY A curious position has arisen in connection with commercial activities in Kiel Canal Zone. When the war ended, policy at that time dictated that no German firms should be allowed to act as Agents for commercial shipping in the Canal. The Ministry of Transport invited the United Baltic Corporation Limited, London to undertake this work, and that Company dealt exclusively with all Agency business until January 1948.
