My dear Archer, I should be glad if Commonwealth Relations Office telegram No. 774 of the 31st December asking for news about the proposal that the Australian Government might institute some form of defence notices. This subject, as you may be aware, has a long and unsatisfactory history. you would refer to At the time we received the letter from Antrobus of the 24th August last we had been reviewing the whole situation as the result of an enquiry from General Evetts, who was anxious, in connection with his own work, to see the system started.
