SECRET GUARD 1. LOSS OF B.W. DEFENCE COMMITTEE PAPERS (Previous reference: J.I.C.(53)35th Meeting, Minute 1, Conclusion 2, dated 27th March, 1953). THE COMMITTEE had before them a minute by the Secretary+ covering a note from the Security Service summarising the results of enquiries into the loss of a file of minutes of the Bacteriological Warfare (Defence) Committee MR. CAREY FOSTER said that it was clear from the Security Service note that the documents must be assumed to have been compromised, and that the Medical Research Council had incurred responsibility by failing to ensure that proper security precautions were observed.
