### 4. WARNING OF SOVIET ATTACK (Previous reference: J.I.C.(53)25th Meeting, Minute 7 dated 5th March, 1953). THE COMMITTEE resumed their discussion of this subject and referred to a minute by the Secretary* covering a note by the Director of Naval Intelligence which had been referred to at their previous meeting. MAJOR GENERAL SHORTT expressed the view that any period of tension which might be built up would be largely as a result of action by the Western powers, and therefore could be controlled by them.
