GUARD TOP SECRET 3. POSSIBLE U.N. OPERATIONS IN THE FAR EAST (Previous reference: J.I.C.(53)9th Meeting, Minute 2 of 22nd January, 1953). THE COMMITTEE had before them a minute by the Secretary+ covering a minute by the Director of Naval Intelligence on possible future studies on the Far East in the light of probable policy. The Committee noted that the Chiefs of Staff have recently instructed≠ the Joint Planning Staff to examine, in conjunction with the Joint Intelligence Committee, the effects on Hong Kong of the new United States policy on Formosa.
