A volume of meeting minutes of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. The JIC members discussed a vast range of international and domestic issues in their meetings. In this file, subjects documented include indications of Soviet preparedness for war, such as troop movements and propaganda output; armistice negotiations in the Korean War; operations in the First Indochina War; the future of British intelligence in Germany; arrangements for information sharing between NATO members; the worsening diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Egypt; leakages of information to the press in the UK and the United States of America; plans for evasion and escape operations in a future war; and the arrest of Nazi sympathisers in West Germany.
