TOP SECRET 3. SOVIET DEFECTOR NIKOLAI KOBRISHNYKH (Previous reference: J.I.C.(52)11th Meeting dated 21st June, 1952). MR. REILLY recalled that when the case of the Soviet defector, Kobrishnykh, was discussed by the Chiefs of Staff at their meeting on January 22nd, in the presence of the Directors of Intelligence, he undertook to ensure that they would be consulted by the Foreign Office before any decision was taken in the matter. Further careful consideration had now been given in the Foreign Office to the various problems raised by the case, and a statement of the considered views of the Foreign Office at the official level had been forwarded to the Chiefs of Staff+ and also circulated to the Committee≠.
