TOP SECRET MR. LUKE said that, subject to confirmation by his Department, he understood that, from the civil point of view, the present warning period should be maintained. In discussion it was generally agreed that, from the military point of view, nothing had occurred to alter the existing threat to Hong Kong and that no extension of the warning period beyond one week was justified. This did not, however, take into account political considerations. THE COMMITTEE:Invited the war Office to take note of their views accordingly.
