CONFIDENTIAL MR. VERYARD said that the paper under consideration had been discussed at a meeting of the Meteorological Committee of the Standing Group and there had been no fundamental difference on the security of meteorological information in war. The paper had also been discussed, whilst still in draft form, at a joint meeting of the Meteorological Committee and the Security Co-ordinating Committee of the Standing Group. At this meeting the suggestion contained in paragraph 8 that a special identification, possibly "weather controlled", would be necessary to facilitate the handling of meteorological information at operating levels and to obviate the requirement for long term guarding of classified material after its value as military intelligence ceased, had been put forward by the United Kingdom Representative on the Security Co-ordinating Committee.
