SECRET There was general agreement that this matter should be discussed further when the problem of intelligence in Malaya was considered the following week. THE COMMITTEE:- (1) Agreed to defer discussion of the report by the Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East, on his visit to Melbourne until their meeting (Directors) the following week. (2) Invited the Foreign Office to arrange for a representative of the Commonwealth Relations Office to attend for this item. (3) Invited the Joint Intelligence Bureau to arrange for Air Commodore Woolley to attend for this item. (4) Agreed to discuss the general question of intelligence in Malaya with the Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East, during his visit to this country. (5) Invited the War Office to arrange for Lieutenant Colonel Butler to attend their meeting (Directors) the following week to report on his recent visit to the Far East. (6) Invited the Colonial Office to arrange, if possible, for Sir Alexander Maxwell to attend their meeting (Directors) the following week to give them the benefit of his views on the Intelligence Organisation in Malaya. 2. THREAT TO YUGOSLAVIA TOP SECRET (Previous Reference: J.I.C.(50) 36th Meeting, Minute 7). THE COMMITTEE had their fortnightly discussion reviewing the military threat to Yugoslavia in order to determine whether there was any significant change in the situation warranting a report to the Chiefs of Staff. THE COMMITTEE:- Maintained their view that there was no evidence that direct Soviet intervention in Yugoslavia was imminent. -2-
