CONFIDENTIAL 2. EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION WITH THE AMERICANS IN THE FAR EAST (Previous Reference: J.I.C.(50) 2nd Meeting, Minute 5). THE COMMITTEE referred to a telegram+ from the Secretary, Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East, referring to the Committee's approval≠ to their passing a version of a certain report to the United States Consul General in Singapore and reporting that the United States Consul General now wished to send that report to the State Department as background information relative to the Bangkok Conference. In discussion, it was generally agreed that, subject to confirmation by the Service Departments, there was no objection to the United States Consul General sending a copy of the report in question to the State Department. 'X' THE COMMITTEE:- (1) Invited the three Service Departments to inform the Secretary of their confirmation as at 'X' above as soon as possible. (2) Subject to (1) above, instructed the Secretary to reply to the Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East, in the light of their discussion. + SEA (RL) 516. ≠ DEF 49. 3. IDENTIFICATION OF PERSONS INDOCTRINATED IN THE METRIC PROCEDURE. CONFIDENTIAL THE COMMITTEE considered a minute+ by the Secretary covering a memorandum≠ by the Secretary to the United Kingdom Delegation, Brussels Treaty Military Committee, stating that the Brussels Treaty Military Committee had recommended that a certain procedure for identifying persons having access to Metric information should be adopted, describing this procedure, and inviting the Committee, if they agreed with the procedure, to arrange for all United Kingdom ministries and headquarters concerned to be informed accordingly. The Committee considered the memorandum paragraph by paragraph and the following points were made:- (a) The Air Ministry were of the opinion that the procedure described in paragraph 2(a) might eventually entail so much additional work for Metric registries that an increase of staff might be required. + J.I.C./26/50. ≠ B.M.C./1/50. -2-
