ANNEX SOVIET AND EUROPEAN SATELLITE MANPOWER AND THE EXTENT OF ITS ADEQUACY FOR A MAJOR WAR MAIN FEATURES OF THE SOVIET MANPOWER POSITION Total Population It is estimated that the total population of the soviet Union, as on 1st January, 1950, was about 200,000,000, of whom 105 million were females. Despite serious checks to its growth during the last half century owing to two wars and the consequences of the Revolution, the general trend in the population has been one of expansion. The annual net increase at present is estimated at about 2½ million.
