Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: Fieldmarshal Busch's assessment of the situation on the northwest front, as at May 1; and of the Allies advancing between the Weser and the Elbe, on May 1; on Czechoslovakia: that the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) of Army Group Centre is to hold Bohemia-Moravia, with a reference to the Fuehrer's death, on May 2; and that Hitler's death motivates Army Group Centre to fight on against the Bolshevist flood, on April 30; on Germany: a report to Himmler on the attitude of the populace in the Tyrol-Vorarlberg fortress, noting the need for a skilful political game and military energy, on May 1; and of large groups of the SS in the southern fortress refusing to fight as they have a special task for Himmler, on May 1; on East Europe: on the ground situation in East Prussia, as of April 30; and on a battle task of the Army in East Prussia, on April 30; on West Europe: that Army Group G orders the distinctive marking and guarding of gas ammunition, on April 21, with a query from the Prime Minister (PM) to the Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS); and the CIGS's reply on the handling of captured gas ammunition, on May 2.
