A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: from the Japananese military attaché in Madrid, a report of a meeting on April 5 with the German military attaché, noting a very pessimistic view of the war, that Germany appeared to be finished, and that the German attaché expected some serious incident would occur in the next week or so; from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin, a propaganda update of April 3, with instructions to push the line that the Soviet Union had plans to expand in the Baltic, taking in Denmark and Sweden, and to discuss a dispute about votes at the San Francisco Conference but do not exaggerate disputes between the Soviet Union and the U.K., these differences obviously not being deep as Mrs Churchill had gone to Moscow; and from the Japanese ambassador in Moscow, a confidential war report received from Tokyo quoting major developments in the Far East since mid-March, on April 2.
