Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: Naval Headlines for March 2, 3 and 4; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, detailing a heavy Allied raid on Berlin on February 26; and on the German war situation, as at February 28; from the French Foreign Ministry, the French reply to its invitation to the San Francisco Conference, on February 25; from the French delegate in Stockholm, that Sweden declines to enter the war, on February 26; from the Argentinian ambassador in London, noting the reactions to invitations to countries to declare war on Germany in order to attend the San Francisco Conference, on February 27; from the Spanish ambassador in London, on the Yalta Conference and the Polish problem, on February 22; regarding Anglo-French relations, Yalta and the Polish question, on February 26; and outlining a House of Commons debate on the Yalta Conference, on February 28; from the Turkish ambassador in Moscow, describing an interview with Molotov on the Yalta Conference, and that the Soviets seek changes to the Montreux Convention, on February 26; and from the French ambassador in London, on British, U.S. and Soviet differences on the Levant, on February 28.
