Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: that an army group may designate Mainz, Mannheim and Germersheim as defence areas, on February 2 (see 8669 for the full version); and that Army Group G expect superior Allied forces to cross the Saar and the West Wall, on February 22; from the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs with the ambassador in Moscow, on the question of extension of the Japanese-Soviet neutrality treaty, on February 16; from the Bulgarian minister in Moscow, describing a conversation with Molotov, and British dissatisfaction with Bulgarian actions, on February 18; from the Chinese military attaché in Berne, on the agreements at Yalta, on February 15; from the French ambassador in Berne, noting panic in Berlin at the imminent arrival of the Soviets, on February 15; from the French ambassador in Moscow, detailing a conversation with Molotov on the Yalta Conference and France's role in Europe, on February 19; from the German Embassy in Madrid, on the Yalta Conference, on February 10 and 12; from the Turkish minister in Lisbon, making an unfavourable comment on the Yalta Conference, on February 19; and from the Japanese naval attaché in Berlin, an assessment of the closing stages of the war in Europe and the Soviet intention to set up a puppet regime in Germany, on February 19.
