Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: on the German ground situation, as of February 22; on East Europe: of German Air Force (GAF) night fighter operations over Breslau; on Germany: that GAF night fighter successes will turn the attention of the Allies to their airfields, with orders for dispersal and camouflage, on February 22; and of instructions on the routing, unloading and storing of war gas ammunition, on February 19; on South Europe: that the Germans have given assurances about preserving Verona's works of art, while the Allies' air attacks show they have no such desire, on February 14; Naval Headlines; from the German Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Legation in Dublin, a call for the western powers to side with Germany and Japan against the might of the Soviets before they spread Communism over all of Europe, which is to be leaked to influential Englishmen and Americans, on February 16; and an order to wait for further instructions before acting on the above, on February 20; from the Japanese ambassador in Italy, on the war situation in northern Italy, on February 13; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, describing a conversation with Ribbentrop on the war situation and post-war Europe, on February 19; from the Chinese ambassador to Poland, in London, that the Polish government in London rejects the Yalta partition of Poland, on February 17; from the French Foreign Ministry, on initial reactions to the Yalta declaration, on February 15; from the French ambassador in Turkey, relating Turkish views on Yalta, on February 17; from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, propaganda directives, on February 15; and from the French minister in Cairo, that Churchill and Roosevelt hold talks in Egypt with Arab leaders, on February 17.
