Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: a day report from Army H Group B for February 18, covering an expected Allied attack against the flank of the Eiffel bulge with strong infantry and tanks being countered by the 2nd Panzer Division; a list of war gas factories and gas ammunition depots needing increased protection, that the installations are not to fall into Allied hands, that there are to be no demolitions, that arrangements are to be made for their evacuation, and that the installations are to be protected against surprise attack and to be defended until their evacuation is complete; and of the Chief Commander for Anti-Gas Defence moving to the Stuttgart area, on February 16; Naval Headlines, covering a new patrol line for the Rasmus Group of U-boats; U-boats being deployed 90 miles north-west of Bloody Foreland and 100 miles west of the Scilly Islands; U-boats in the area south of Ireland being ordered to seek traffic to the east or north-east; Small Battle Units Command requiring information about mole defences and the protection of Ostend harbour; and the German cruiser Nuernberg being undamaged in a sabotage attempt at Copenhagen although the quay was severely damaged; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, describing an interview with Vice-Minister Steengracht, on the progress of the war on the Eastern Front; and forwarding an unconfirmed report from Sweden on the three-power conference, on February 15; from the French ambassador in London, on Polish reactions to the Crimea Conference, on February 14; from the Greek ambassador in Ankara, noting Turkish reservations over the Crimea Conference, on February 17; and on the Turkish reaction to Churchill's visit to Athens following the Crimea Conference; of a directive from the National Socialist Directing Staff to the political commissars of all Fortress Commandants and Sea Defence Commandants regarding the Yalta communiqué, on February 19; and Naval Headlines of February 18, covering an attack by German saboteurs being planned against an airfield north of Ancona; the mine-layer Kuckuck being damaged in an air raid on Guarnero dockyard; and that an Allied carrier-based aircraft attacked shipping in the Yokusuka area.
