Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: BONIFACE summaries for Colonel Kent; of Allied concentrations in the Aachen area; of overcrowding of localities behind the front; on the 9th SS Corps in Budapest anticipating elimination of the German garrison; of the German Air Force (GAF) in Vienna reporting a shortage of anti-aircraft ammunition; of Goering's proclamation calling for the fanatical defence of German soil; of there being 18 months' supply of fuel on the Channel Islands; that there will be no further releases of naval personnel to the army, with naval regiments and divisions to be formed; that the German Air Ministry imposed restrictions on air activities in the west because of increased fuel consumption in the east; on the Gestapo being called to deal with serious disintegration among the civilian population at Stockstadt; that the chlorine and sulphuric acid in the store at Stockstadt are in danger from Allied air raids; of a request for blocking the Westphalia industrial area; that aircraft production equipment is to be transferred to the Bavarian Alps from Vienna and Steyr; that there are 300,000 men in German Army Group E in Yugoslavia; of von Runstedt's appeal to German troops to defeat the Allied attempt to capture the Ruhr industries; of reinforcements being requested for the West Frisian Islands; of the Japanese intention to hold northern Luzon for as long as possible but they attach no major military importance to it; that they anticipate landings on Iwojima and Okinawa; and that oil installations at Palembang have been extensively damaged, and are expected to be out of action for months; on the Russian Front: of Hitler's orders for setting up Grenadier regiments; that the conduct and operational readiness of the 2nd Mountain Division are very good, but the troops are not yet accustomed to large-scale operations; of evidence being collected for a list of Allied war criminals; and that some 19,000 wounded are to be evacuated from East Prussia to Denmark because of overcrowding in Germany, with fuel and ammunition urgently required.
