Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: that Army Group B expect Allied attacks in the Dueren area, on December 14; and of the German Air Force's (GAF's) instructions for operation GISELA, the infiltration of nightfighters into returning Allied bomber streams to disrupt landings and attack airfields, on December 14; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese minister in Berne, noting rivalry over spheres of influence in Europe between the Allied powers, on December 4; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, on rumours regarding the Soviet Union and the U.S., on December 11; from Papandreou in Athens to the Greek King in London, on the suggested appointment of the archbishop as regent, on December 13; from the Spanish ambassador in London, that Churchill defends his actions in Greece and Italy, on December 8; and from the Turkish minister in Cairo, that Greece is a struggle between the U.K. and the Soviet Union, on December 7.
