A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: of a German defence position being developed in East Holland from Groningen along the Ems Canal to Delfzijl, noting a demand from the naval Chief Command for the North that the defence line be extended from Groningen in a northerly direction as far as Waddensee and that the coast of Heligoland Bight be defended, on November 4; that the 7th Army in the area from Aachen-Trier is planning a counter attack for November 3; of the 67th Corps reporting heavy Allied artillery activity and a tank penetration in the area around Wagenberg in the 711th Infantry Division's sector; that the 719th infantry Division is under fire at the Moerdijk bridges; that the 245th Infantry Division repulsed an Allied attack in company strength; and that the main body of Battle Group Chill has taken up positions north of Waal; and the Fortress Commandant at St Nazaire reports the Battle Groups there are made up of inexperienced members of all branches of the service, a shortage of suitable officers and non-commissioned officers (NCOs), a lack of heavy mortars and anti-tank weapons, and a strained fuel situation but excellent fighting spirit, irreproachable discipline, and good morale.
