Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: that the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) of the Home Army is to defend the German West position and the West Wall until the Western Army withdraws into these positions, noting that Allied spearheads are expected soon and that Allied airborne troops could be dropped in the rear of the German positions, on August 30; that Army Group G builds up a rallying position through to the Swiss frontier, on September 1, also including the disposition of Army Group G units; of 5 divisions being returned to Germany from France, the 243rd Division being disbanded and the 5th Parachute Division being incorporated into the 3rd Parachute Division and withdrawn to the Nancy area, on August 28; an Army Group G report for September 1, giving the remaining strengths of the 19th Army's 338th and 198th Divisions after breaking through an Allied block in the Rhone Valley; that the 64th Army Corps is to cross the Loire by September 9; on the results of an Allied air raid on Kiel naval base, on August 30; that most planned demolition work at Brest was completed by September 3; and on the main defence line for probably the 82nd Army Corps, as at September 4. This file also includes Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) report 292 of September 2, containing two reports on German morale: one from the 18th Army via an Estonian officer; and one from a Scandinavian source in Berlin.
