A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: on plans by the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) West to withdraw 12 divisions from north-west France for a rest and refit, on September 2; that Army Group G requests engineer blocking forces from Germany to construct blocks between Nancy and Strasbourg in anticipation of surprise Allied tank thrusts, on September 2; an Army Group G report for September 2, covering Mouthe being evacuated and that Lyon is to be given up during the night of September 2/3, and that the 4th German AIr Force (GAF) Field Corps and the 85th Army Corps are withdrawing; of the 553rd and 559th Grenadier Divisions being resubordinated from the 1st Army to the 12th Military District responsible for defending part of the western German border, on September 1; that Goering orders the C-in-C West to assist Speer's commissioner Heyking in organising the salvaging and taking to Germany of machine tools and production equipment from France and Belgium, on August 29; that the Chief Quartermaster of the C-in-C West criticises the irresponsible fleeing and abandoning of vital supplies by German troops, on September 2; and on the status of Brest fortress as at September 1 together with the casualties to date; and a German General Staff directive: a circular to all German military authorities requesting details of all captured enemy war gasses and war gas ammunition, on August 27.
