Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: of withdrawal plans for the 15th Army and the 5th Panzer Army overnight on August 29/30; a 3rd Air Fleet report on Allied advances on August 29; of a mutiny by a Russian battalion of the 30th SS Grenadier Division, which was last reported to be in the Vesoul - Besancon area, on August 28; that German High Command arranges for a mobile howitzer, newly produced on August 16, to be taken to Paris to quell internal disorder there; that the German Air Force (GAF) 9th Air Corps of heavy bombers is to vacate all its airfields in Belgium, on August 29; and that all GAF units not essential for operations and south and west of a line from Scheldt - the German frontier - Basle are to deploy to the north or east, on August 29; on Southern Europe: that Army Group E, last located in Salonika, orders Patras to stop all supply trips, with there to be no further stocking up, on August 28; and a German assessment of the supply situation in the Aegean, noting the situation on the islands is better than on the mainland, as of August 28; Naval Headlines; from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin, stating the propaganda lines to be taken by German attachés abroad on the attempted assassination of Hitler on July 20 and on a recent visit by Keitel to Finland, on August 20; a similar instruction of August 24 with the lines to be taken on the war on the Western and Eastern fronts, issuing a denial that V-1 secrets had been betrayed to the Allies, claiming that poor weather prevents Allied air support over France, and saying that no discussion is permitted on the possible use of poison gas by Germany; from the Chilean ambassador in London, that Eden lunches in the Embassy, on August 25, and gives the ambassador a report on the progress of the war and future Allied strategy; and GUNPOWDER-62: a message of August 10 from the German military attaché in Tokyo on the increasing defeatism now being seen in Japan and thoughts that the Japanese will suffer the same fate as Germany.
