Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on France: that the 7th Army consider the fuel shortage is preventing the prompt movement of the Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion and of the 10th SS Panzer Division; that the 708th Division's strength is down to 60 men; that if possible the 10th SS Division is to withdraw from the line and assemble in the area west of Briouze; that the 10th SS Division is to be held ready for mobile operations under the 58th Corps; that Eberbach is unable to continue his command of the Panzer Corps with his present Staff, and requested a quick bring up of Staff of the 5th Panzer Army; and that the transport situation on August 14 is extremely strained, with orders for the organisation of emergency columns, and with precedence to be given to transport on receipt of the keyword RICHARD.
