A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file contains a message from C to the Prime Minister (PM); and the following reports on France: a situation report for August 7, covering Allied attacks breaking the continuity of the front of the 84th Corps, and the left wing of the 353rd Division being under threat; that elements of the 12th SS Division are to assist in an attempt to throw the Allies from the right bank of the Orne; of the 1st SS Panzer Corps counter-attacking an Allied penetration at Grimbosq; of the 74th Corps withdrawing to a new line; that 95 Allied tanks are established in points of penetration; that attacks of the 1st and 2nd Panzer Divisions were held up by fighter bombers; on the 47th Panzer Corps' front line; that the 9th SS Panzer Division is to withdraw to a salient west of Chenedolle; on the supply situation for August 6 for the 47th Panzer Corps, noting that a successful attack could produce supply problems; the 81st Army Corps report 300 Allied tanks are at Ambrieres, and that a German regiment is surrounded by U.S. forces east of Suzanne; of Allies advancing on Le Mans having taken Sille; of indications that the 9th Panzer Division is approaching the battle area; that ammunition is stuck at Porte Valence because of an air attack, that a supply depot was damaged in an air raid on Lyons, and that Nice was bombed; and on U-boat dispositions at Brest, Lorient, St Nazaire and Bordeaux on August 5; and on the Russian Front: a brief appreciation of the Soviet forces' situation from the Chief of Staff for Foreign Armies East on July 30.
