Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: a front line report by an unspecified formation, for July 17; that the 2nd Fighter Corps believes enemy reinforcing has been concluded, on July 17; that the Panzer Lehr Division is to withdraw its front line, on the night of July 17-18; that the 2nd SS Panzer Division lost 22 tanks, from July 8-11; and that a German Air Force (GAF) unit is to move to Munich for re-equipping with Me262s, on July 16; on Germany: GAF raid damage reports for July 16-17; on South Europe: that the 26th Panzer Division withdraws under heavy attack, on July 17; that the 87th Army Corps seeks information on the deployment of forces in the event of contingency 'G', on July 15; that the Germans assess the Allies as preferring to exploit Italian successes rather than invade south France, on July 14; and on Germany: a report on the conditions and morale there, as of July 17.
