Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: that the Germans are preparing human torpedoes to destroy bridges over the River Orne and canals, on July 5/6; that the 272nd Infantry Division moves into Normandy to replace the 1st SS Panzer Adolf Hitler Division south-west of Caen, on July 16; and of the 9th SS Division being temporarily withdrawn from fighting in the 2nd SS Corps' area, on July 15; and on Southern Europe: that Symi Island, north of Rhodes, was recaptured by an Allied commando force on July 14, so the Germans are making contingency plans against losing other islands in the area.
