A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: that the 47th Panzer Corps on the central Normandy Front is expecting a resumption of Allied attacks, on July 14; on the results of an Allied air raid on Toulon, on July 11; and a German Air Force (GAF) in Germany summary for July 13/14, covering a massed air raid on Munich and attacks against synthetic fuel plants in the Ruhr; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese consul-general in Vienna, a report of July 5 following up on an earlier report of June 26, which gives a very detailed report of all the damage caused to factories in the Vienna area on June 26 when 500 U.S. aircraft bombed industrial targets there; and from the German ambassador in Madrid, a report of July 7 relayed on the 10th by Berlin to the German Embassy in Ankara and the German legations in Stockholm and Lisbon, making obvious propaganda points critical of the British campaign in Normandy and allegedly obtained from a meeting of members of the British consulate-general in Barcelona in the presence of the British ambassador; the Prime Minister (PM) was very concerned over this message - a covering note was sent from C to Mr Loxley for the Foreign Secretary with various comments added along the way, and the general consensus is that the item should not be believed: BJ 133702 (see 7117).
