Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: battle reports from the Normandy front for July 11 from the 1st SS Panzer Corps and the 21st Panzer Division, stating that an Allied build up east of the River Orne leads the Germans to expect a large-scale attack; and that a German attack south-west of Caen was repulsed; a battle report from the 10th SS Panzer Division south-west of Caen for July 11; that the 277th Infantry Division completes the relief of the 9th SS Panzer Division, on July 10; a combat report from the 2nd SS Panzer Corps; of a call for German Air Force (GAF) support as Allied forces penetrate just east of Caen during the night of July 10/11; combat reports from the 86th Corps and the 21st Panzer Division for July 11; combat reports from the western sector of the Cherbourg Peninsula for July 11 for battle groups of the 77th and 243rd Divisions; on the front line of the Panzer Lehr Division as at July 11; and that Kesselring appeals to German High Command on June 30 for 700 tractors, to give mobility to German forces which were outnumbered by a ratio of 10 to 1 in tanks and assault guns, noting that a vast amount of immobilized German equipment had had to be destroyed to avoid it falling into Allied hands because there were no means of towing it away.
