Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on West Europe: of the 84th Corps' intention being to hold the line north of La Haye du Puits; that the 84th Corps is holding enemy attacks, but suffering heavy losses and is worn out, on July 3; on the fighting value of 2nd Parachute Corps formations, as of July 2; the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) West's report for June 30, detailing front line fighting and the movement of divisions by rail; and the C-in-C West's appreciation of Allied intentions, as at June 30; on South Europe: that the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division is to withdraw to a new line, on July 3; on South-east Europe: that the German Air Force (GAF) at Tirana is to institute stringent aviation and vehicle fuel economy measures, from June 29; Naval Headlines; from the Portuguese minister in Ankara, on Turkey and the war, on July 1; and from the Portuguese charg?n Berlin, detailing a Berlin air raid on June 21, a repeat of 6972.
