This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: a report from von Schlieben's battle group at Cherbourg for the night of June 22/23, that the Allied forces had broken through just outside Cherbourg, and that the German forces were insufficient to oppose them, the Allied forces being much stronger than originally estimated; that von Schlieben calls for anti-tank ammunition to be brought by sea to Cherbourg as all the stores there were exhausted; and that the 1st SS Panzer Corps in the Caen area is expecting an Allied attack on the right flank, on June 22; Naval Headlines, covering German attempts to get military supplies into Cherbourg by U and E-boats, most of which were aborted because the garrison was about to capitulate; from the Saudi minister in London, a report of June 20 on the past 6 days of V-1 attacks on London - the ambassador considers that they will have no influence on the future course of the war; and from the Portuguese minister in Ankara, a report of June 21 on the resignation of the Turkish Foreign Minister, which signified a more pro-British stance by Turkey in future.
